What's the purpose of having multiple iSCSI targets?

Solution

In a pure iSCSI SAN environment, it is not allowed to let an iSCSI target/LUN be managed/logged in by multiple hosts at the same time because it may cause data inconsistency situation.

XCubeSAN series products provide multiple iSCSI targets which can be attached to different virtual disks for distinguishing from iSCSI initiator on host while trying to log in.

On the other hand, if you using the same iSCSI target with all the LUN, it is possible that the connected host(s) may take a longer time than usual for detecting the logged in iSCSI volume, especially that there were some volumes used in VMware environment.
